Summer 2014 - Present
Based on the Welsh border at the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, Freerein have been operating their unique horse riding holidays for over 25 years. With their combination of experience, local knowledge and research they’ve created the world’s most extensive trail riding network, offering beginner, guided, self-guided and personalised horse riding holidays.
Overhauling Freerein’s Online Presence
Matt at Freerein first contacted me in July 2014 when he was looking to update the company website to make it fully responsive and mobile friendly. As his previous site was a static site that was difficult to update, I suggested building the new responsive site on WordPress which Matt said would make his life much easier.
There were a large variety of page and content types to consider before beginning the designs, so I worked with Matt to prioritise and section the vast content before planning how to accommodate everything within a new, responsive website layout. Matt had quite a clear idea of how he would like some of the content to be laid out, including keeping the colour schemes for different horse holiday types as per the previous Freerein website. With the designs complete I moved on to coding and building the site on WordPress, before testing it across 700+ browsers and devices.
Since the new Freerein website went live in January 2015, I’ve worked on it periodically to make it more and more automated, particularly focusing on increasing efficiency in their WordPress website. Keeping the site updated by adding new trails, dates, prices and booking forms now takes Matt a fraction of the time it did previously, giving him more time to work on managing his business, staff and 31 horses!
Consistent, Coherent Collateral
As Freerein’s ‘go-to’ guy for design and web jobs, I also design their annual brochure. Packed with the latest trails, accommodation and equine friends, tens of thousands of copies of the 50+ page brochure are printed and distributed nationwide every year. As the lead designer of the Freerein website, I am able to apply the brand’s colours, fonts and overall style to their printed collateral ensuring a consistent and coherent presentation.
Working With Freerein
It’s a pleasure to work with Freerein on an ongoing basis and really see the fruits of my labour as the business goes from strength to strength as a result of my work with them. I genuinely feel like a part of their team, slotting in to the company as and when creative work is required. For Matt, I believe I offer him all of the skills and ideas of a small agency without the agency price tag. Most importantly, since working with Freerein they’ve seen an increase in traffic and business as we continue to evolve the brand together to keep their loyal guests coming back for more.
